California Girls: A Study on The California Dream and How it Pertains to The Work of Women Writers
This research explores the intersections of gender, identity, place, and voice through the works of Joan Didion, Pamela Des Barres, Glenna Matthews, and Rebecca Solnit, alongside theoretical frameworks from Michel Foucault and Søren Kierkegaard. Seeing California as a landscape for myths and socially constructed dreams, this study investigates how women subvert popular beliefs but are widely misinterpreted due to narrative, social and historical context of their publications, image, and above all the audience's preference over a vision of California rather than the true lived experiences.
